Maryland Januaries and Februaries are usually very cold months. However we always seem to get a nice break from the normally frigid weather in one of the two months. It's never a long sabbatical, just a day or two. It also seems that
the nice weather falls on a weekday. Thankfully that was not the case this weekend. The thermometer in my car topped off at 59 degrees this afternoon. Saturday was the same, 59 degrees. Just like you (if your from Maryland) pray for a snow day in the middle of the week, you also pray for a sun day on a weekend.
What a wonderful weekend it was. Theresa and I got up Saturday, made breakfast and spent the morning playing Play-Dough with Maddie. After her nap we went Idlywyld park. We knew it was going to be packed and it was. It seemed like everyone with their kids was there, as would be expected on such a wonderful day.
We have been couped up in the house since before Christmas, so getting out in the warm sunny weather was a real spirit uplifter and made all of us anxious for spring and summer. I was kind of hoping that I would get a call from my neighbor Keith inviting me over for a fire. Keith has a nice fire-ring that he built two years ago. So when the weather is right (all summer) and it's Saturday night, he has a fire. I knew it would be a long shot because he has been spending all his spare time remodeling his basement. One could still hope though.
Sunday was truly a sun day. Hardly any wind to speak of and the sun seemed warmer than Saturday's sun. Because it was so packed Saturday afternoon, we decided to take Maddie to the park again, but we take her in the morning. That was a great choice. The "big kids" were nowhere to be found, unlike Saturday.
One somewhat funny thing happened. On the ride over a rain cloud passed by and showered the park. By the time we arrived the cloud and moved on and the sun was shining however the park was still wet and slippery. As soon as Maddies feet hit the ground at the park she took off running. So I cautioned her to take it slow because the ground was wet and I didn't want her to fall. Well that was all it took for some temporary OCD to kick in. Until the ground was dry, she would not get on anything without telling me how scared she was that she was going to fall.I thought it was cute and at the same time it alarms me because she does this a lot. She finds something and obsesses over it and she os only 2 1/2 years old. And good Lord don't get me started on her getting her hands or feet dirty. Only time will tell if this is a normal 2 y.o. thing or if it something more.
When we woke up this morning Theresa and I took turns making breakfast, I had Dean Martin playing in the backgorund and Theresa mostly played Play-Dough with Maddie again. At one point Theresa came in to help finish making toast and I told her "If there is a heaven, I hope I get relive these moments over and over."
It was a great weekend.
