Staycation and other stuff

Posted in

I am on staycation and loving it. Since March I have been going solid at work and was getting to the point where I was just not as productive as I normally am. So Monday morning I told Theresa that I was taking Thursday, Friday, and Tuesday off.

Yesterday was a wonderful day. I mowed the lawn then went to the hair shop and had them mow my hair which was in desperate need of a hair cut. Oh and I also took two naps. That was real nice.

Happy Mothers Day

This has been one week that I really do just want to forget. Aside from putting Buster to sleep, the weather was crappy, Theresa was cranky, Maddie was cranky from being couped up in the house, and at work it seems as though I could not get anything accomplished because I am getting interrupted every half hour for either a meeting or some flame to be put out. Which I suppose is a good thing, it's nice to know that you are needed. Moreland Manufacturing has chosen me to design their new website, so that was a plus for the week.

Goodby Buster.

About six months after Theresa and I got married we went to the AA County Dog Pound to rescue a dog. We didn't see a dog there that really jumped out at us. There was a cute set of dogs that were brother and sister that we liked. I remember the information desk had a half dozen people standing at it when we came out from that back and we had to wait to ask about the two dogs.

Something you'll never be able to do gracefully in Windows

Yesterday afternoon I was working from home, Maddie was sick and Mommy could not take off so that left me to care for the bambino. I was in the middle of coding Salute The Veterans new site [to be posted soon] when my laptop stopped responding.

Snow day

Monday, 2009-03-03

We got 10 inches of snow that Sunday into Monday. In typical Maryland weather style, it's 5 days later and 72 degrees.

Maddie, Mommy, and I, made Frosty the Snowman and Crystal. Maddie, who is fanatical when it comes to Frosty, walked up to him, shook his hand, and said "Hi! I'm Baby. I am glad to meet you." then hugged him ( as best she could) then kissed him several times. It was a wonderful day until the sun went down and we had to go in.

I can't wait till next years big snow - if we get one.

Pics posted below.

Salute The Veterans

Over the past year I have had the pleasure to come to know Rebecca Pully. Rebecca is the President of Salute The Veterans a non-profit organization which hosts moral boosting events for Vets of all five branches of our Military.

A little more style

Just an update. I have added a small sprinkle of style. I know it's probably a lot more boring than most people would like, but I really do like the look. It does not distract from the content....Well maybe the banner of Maddie, but that's ok ;-)

Fun stuff a Generalist gets to do

This afternoon Jimmy, one of our Machinist, walks into my office and asks me stop by a friends of his machine shop when I get off of work. They bought a CMM and were having trouble getting the computer it was hooked up to to recognize it. Aside from only know what a CMM is and the basic principles behind it, I know nothing about CMMs, so naturally I said "yes, I'll be right over"..I love a technical challenge. In fact the less I know about something the more I want to get my hands on it.

Sun day

Maryland Januaries and Februaries are usually very cold months. However we always seem to get a nice break from the normally frigid weather in one of the two months. It's never a long sabbatical, just a day or two. It also seems that

Ubuntu update-alternatives command

I just found one of the most handy features in Ubuntu I think I have ever come accross:

update-alternatives

I installed EMMS (Emacs Multi Media System) so I could play my music from within emacs. I use emacs-snapshot which is the latest beta version of emacs (interesting to note that the beta is more stable than most official releases of software that runs on an OS from Redmond, Washington, but I digress). I just sudo aptitude install emms. A few minutes later it was installed.
